INT 4490 Cued Speech / SPA 6930: Cued Speech and Its Clinical Application Course Flyer

The INT 4490 Cued Speech course is a skills-based course that covers the fundamentals of the Cued Speech system, including an overview of how it is typically used with children who are deaf. Students are also briefly introduced to common applications of cueing and other communication options. In the graduate SPA 6930 course, students are given an introduction to the Cued Speech system and then learn about relevant research supporting the use of Cued Speech in various settings. In addition, students learn about clinical applications for speech-language therapy, auditory training, and counseling.

Major assignments in INT 4490 include a midterm and final exam, as well as two cueing "performances." Graduate students in SPA 6930 have one "performance," with the rest of the semester focused on clinical applications. The performance(s) in both courses give students an opportunity to rehearse a piece of material to cue for the class (and camera). Performance I occurs shortly after students have learned the system, while Performance II occurs at or near the end of the semester and allows for a little creativity. Some samples (courtesy of students who graciously gave permission for their videos to be shared) are available below, with most recent videos first. Check out what USF students can cue!
