The Office of Undergraduate Research
is pleased to announce two sources of funding, UR USF Travel Awards
and UR USF Research Grants, available to undergraduate researchers
in 2005-06. Research includes any and all scholarly and/or creative
investigation through which analysis and interpretation lead to presentable
conclusions. The presentation may take a myriad of forms, including
but not limited to, papers, abstracts, exhibitions or performances.
Any student engaged in research, scholarship or creative activity
leading to a tangible product will be eligible to apply for a Research
Grant, which will be for up to $500.
Normally, grant money will not be awarded
for projects conducted as part of their coursework. Students
may, however, apply for grants to support thesis research or to expand
substantively on research begun as coursework in a previous semester.
Students whose own research, including creative activity, has been
selected for scholarly presentation or performance at a conference
or other institution, or who are co-authors on a mentor's scholarly
presentation selected for a conference, are eligible to apply for
the Travel Award, which will cover up to $500 of conference-related
expenses. Students are eligible to apply to both programs and
it is anticipated that recipients of Research Grants will be competitive
applicants for Travel Awards in subsequent semesters.
