SPA 4930 / SPA 6930: Introduction to Cued Speech and Its Applications Course FlyerThis course covers the fundamentals of the Cued Speech system, including an overview of how it is typically used with children who are deaf. Common applications of cueing and other communication options and relevant research are discussed. Major assignments include a midterm and final exam, as well as two cueing "performances." The performances give students an opportunity to rehearse a piece of material to cue for the class (and camera). Performance I occurs shortly after students have learned the system, while Performance II occurs toward the end of the semester and allows for a little creativity. Some samples (courtesy of students who graciously gave permission for their videos to be shared) are available below, with most recent videos first. Check out what USF students can cue! Student Cueing SamplesThe samples below are listed by semester and assignment, with most recent assignments listed first. Each video window contains multiple samples. Watch them all in their entirety, or jump between students by clicking on the arrow keys at either side of the window or by moving the mouse in the video window and selecting the next student from the menu that appears. Spring 2007: Performance IIThis assignment occurs 13 weeks into the semester; students have some basic proficiency and are able to get a little more creative.
