Introduction and Scope

Surrealism is an artistic movement that began in the early 1920s. It attempted to represent the subconscious mind by incorporating juxtaposition of subject matter and incongruous imagery. Surrealism was heavily influenced by the works of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Some of the most famous surrealist artists are Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Man Ray, and Joan Miro. This pathfinder focuses on resources that encompass the Surrealist movement, and individual surrealist artists.

This pathfinder was created for college students seeking information on the surrealism movement and surrealist artists. All sources cited were obtained from the University of South Florida, Tampa Campus library.
