(This information originally appeared on the RTVJ listserv.
It is re-printed here.)
I received an e-mail shortly after the AEJMC convention from
an RTVJ member asking how the division determines which proposed
panels are forwarded to AEJMC for possible inclusion in the
national convention. I thought it would be wise to summarize
that process and let all of you know how we do it.
The way RTVJ has done it recently and will continue to do so
this year is as follows: The vice head (Denise Dowling this
year) collects all the panel proposals and then sends them to
each member of the executive committee. (They are the Head,
Vice Head, Teaching Chair, Research Chair, PR&R chair, Secretary/Newsletter
Editor, and Membership Chair.) That group of seven rank orders
each of the panels and returns their votes to Denise.
From there, she will take the top 7, 8, 9 or perhaps 10 panels
and forward them to AEJMC headquarters. Soon after, we begin
negotiating with other divisions or interest groups for possible
co-sponsorships. We could end up with as many as 5, 6, or 7
of our panels on the program, depending on how many chips are
available to us and the kind of co-sponsorship deals we make.
Those final decisions and deals are made in advance of the December
programming meeting, which Denise and I will attend in San Antonio.
Let me know if you have any extra questions. And remember, as
I mentioned at the members' meeting in Toronto, we need and
want as many people submitting as many ideas as possible.
